Using the Privileges App

For security purposes your user account has now been setup as a Standard account. But what if you need to install software, add a printer, or do something else that requires Admin privileges? That is when it is time to use the SAP Privileges app!

Usage Guidance

There should be an icon for SAP Privileges in the far right of the Dock.

The lock icon indicates that you are currently a Standard user. When you activate the icon a dialog box will open:

Click the Request privileges button. Next a second dialog box will open:

After that dialog box has been dismissed you will see that the lock icon has changed in the Dock:

The yellow icon indicates that you are now an Admin user. When you perform an action that requires administrator privileges you can use your user name and password to authenticate.

When you are done performing any actions that require elevated privileges then click the lock icon again. You will be prompted to confirm that you want to remove your privileges with another dialog box:

If you click the “Remove privileges” button, the icon will turn back to the lock icon indicating that you are once again a Standard user.

But what happens if you forget to click the icon the second time? After 5 minutes you will receive a dialog box prompting you to indicate whether you still need Admin access:

If you click the No button or the timer runs out then you will be converted back to a Standard user.
